The French Public Prosecutor's Office for Counter-Terrorism announced on Saturday that charges were brought against three women on October 10th, following a terrorist plot targeting the capital, Paris.
The prosecution explained that the accused are facing charges of "terrorist conspiracy to commit crimes against persons," noting that they have been placed in pre-trial detention pending their trial, according to local media reports. The lawyer of one of the accused, an 18-year-old girl, mentioned that the plan was targeting a bar or a concert hall in Paris, without specifying the exact location. This judicial development coincided with statements by Olivier Christen, the French Public Prosecutor for Counter-Terrorism, who stressed that the terrorist threat in France "is still very real," despite the passage of ten years since the deadly November 13, 2015 attacks that claimed the lives of 130 people. Christen said: "We are currently living in a phase that is witnessing a very real terrorist threat, and the number of cases opened in our office is among the highest in the last five years." He explained that the nature of the threat has evolved, as terrorist operations now rely more on independent individuals who are not directly linked to extremist organizations, with a decrease in the average age of those involved. Since the beginning of 2025, terrorist charges have been brought against 17 minors, compared to 19 during the year 2024. This case brings to mind the November 13, 2015 attacks, when three extremists attacked the Bataclan Theater in Paris and killed 90 people, while other groups targeted cafe terraces and the "Stade de France" stadium, leaving more than 350 injured in one of the bloodiest nights in modern French history.
