HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyawi
According to informed sources, the regional brigade of the Royal Gendarmerie in Fez has summoned an elected official and prominent businessman from the city of Taza, to hear his testimony tomorrow, Wednesday, November 12th, as part of extensive investigations into suspected money laundering.
This summons comes in addition to the list of suspects, which includes four other people who are under investigation in the same case, which relates to the potential use of major real estate and commercial projects in Taza and other cities west of the kingdom as cover for financial operations suspected of being of illicit origin. According to the newspaper's sources, the person in question had previously undergone an initial hearing in mid-January 2025 by the National Brigade of the Judicial Police in Casablanca, as part of a search procedure regarding the legitimacy of the sources of his wealth under the title "From Where Did You Get This". Detailed investigations and detailed evidence The same sources clarified that the elements of the Royal Gendarmerie were able, after months of monitoring and investigation, to collect accurate data related to the suspect, including: bank balances inside and outside Morocco, real estate, commercial and service projects in the name of the person concerned or in partnership with other parties, records of his external travels, including his ownership of a property in Spain, huge financial transactions, some of which are cash, and others through bank transfers over the years. The sources added that confronting the suspect with this data, especially those related to the accumulation of a large fortune within a short period of no more than 10 to 15 years, put him in a difficult position before the investigators, especially due to the lack of clear legal justifications for some properties and transfers. A file described as "heavy" includes influential figures The sources confirmed that this investigation is not limited to the current accused, but includes other figures from "Taza notables," including elected officials and local officials, some of whom underwent hearings and investigations at the beginning of this year by the National Brigade of the Royal Gendarmerie. This file is classified among the sensitive cases that arouse the interest of the local public, given the size of the suspicions and the value of the projects associated with the investigation, in addition to the presence of influential political and economic names on the list of suspects. Investigation continues Investigations are still ongoing in coordination between the Royal Gendarmerie and the Judicial Police, and the coming days are expected to reveal new developments in the case, including the possibility of referring the file to the competent Public Prosecution after completing the investigations.
