HIBAPRESS – Follow-up
The political scene in Algeria has turned into a satirical theater after the Secretary-General of the National Democratic Rally, Moundir Boudin, decided to make the Aurès apple a symbol of "national dignity".
During a gathering in Batna, Moundir Boudin proudly announced that the Algerian no longer needs European apples, because the Aurès apple is "more beautiful in appearance and more delicious in taste". He stated: "The Aurès apple has become today a symbol of national production and the recovery of Algerian dignity." He added: "Years ago, the Algerian was forced to import apples from Europe to taste them, but today, he savors the apples of his country grown in the Aurès Mountains, beautiful in appearance and delicious in taste, instead of the apples of the Alps." A simple statement on the surface, but it opened the appetite for satire on social media, where many saw that politics in Algeria was discussing "the apple of dignity" instead of development and reform files.
