HIBAPRESS – Rabat
The sister of human rights activist Saida Elalami issued a statement to national and international public opinion via her Facebook page, announcing a serious deterioration in her health as a result of a new hunger strike inside the prison institution where she is serving her sentence.
Her sister said in her statement that she holds the Moroccan authorities responsible for any harm that may befall Saida Elalami, pointing out that her continuation of the strike comes, according to the family, in protest against what she described as "oppressive and provocative practices" inside the prison. The sister of the detained political activist added that her health condition has become very critical, calling on the prison delegation administration to "assume its legal and humanitarian responsibility in protecting her life and guaranteeing her right to medical care." The sister of the detainee Saida Elalami added that she had corresponded with "a number of national and international human rights organizations" to inform them of what she considers a "worrying health situation" and "unjustified psychological torture," according to the statement. The sister of Saida Elalami emphasized that her arrest came "because of expressing her opinion," confirming her continued defense of her rights until "her release." The sister of Saida Elalami concluded her statement by demanding freedom for Saida Elalami, holding the concerned parties fully responsible for the developments in her health condition inside the prison.
