A new step strengthens the open projects to rebuild the areas affected by the Al Haouz earthquake, as the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water started operating a project to strengthen the drinking water distribution network in the center of Ait Zenab and its surrounding villages in the province of Ouarzazate, starting from the Taznakht pipeline, which transports treated water from the Sultan Moulay Ali Cherif dam.
This project comes to secure a sustainable source of water for the benefit of more than 10,000 people who were suffering from a structural shortage in supply, especially after the repercussions of the earthquake. A financial envelope of approximately 12 million dirhams has been allocated for its implementation, in partnership with the Islamic Development Bank. This workshop includes an integrated infrastructure that includes a water tank with a capacity of 400 cubic meters, and two pumping stations with a daily capacity of up to 1,300 cubic meters, in addition to a new network of pipes with lengths exceeding 11 kilometers, which makes the project one of the most important water interventions in the region in recent years. The operation of the new facilities was launched during an official ceremony on November 18, 2025, in the presence of the governor of the province of Ouarzazate, elected officials, and representatives of the National Office and the Islamic Development Bank, in a celebratory moment that coincided with the anniversary of Independence Day. Local affairs observers believe that this project will enhance the region's resilience to climate change and water scarcity, in addition to improving the quality of life of the population, and enabling them to access an essential service that has been an urgent demand for years.
