Spanish authorities found the body of a Moroccan man on Sunday morning who was living in a state of homelessness on a street in the capital, Madrid, after spending the night sleeping on a simple cardboard box amid a severe cold wave that hit the city in recent days.
Initial data indicates that the victim, who had been sleeping outdoors for a while, could not withstand the significant drop in temperatures, which suggests that the harsh cold was a major cause of his death, pending the results of the medical examination. The incident left a state of sadness and condemnation among the residents of the area, and also sparked a wide wave of sympathy on social media, where it re-highlighted the suffering of people without shelter, especially migrants who find themselves on the streets without social protection or humanitarian support. In light of this tragedy, calls are being made to members of the Moroccan community, civil and humanitarian associations inside and outside Morocco, to unite efforts and extend a helping hand to Moroccan migrants who are living in precarious conditions. Activists emphasize the importance of solidarity initiatives that provide them with warmth and shelter, especially during the winter season, when the risks to their lives are multiplied.
