The match between Manchester United and Everton, yesterday, Monday, at the end of the twelfth round of the English Premier League, witnessed an unusual incident when Senegal's Idrissa Gueye was sent off in the 13th minute after assaulting his teammate Michael Keane.
Gueye slapped his team's defender after one of Manchester United's attacks, prompting referee Tony Harrington to show the red card amid the bewilderment of the players and the crowd. Gueye protested the decision vehemently before veteran goalkeeper Jordan Pickford intervened to contain and calm him down. Despite playing with ten players, Everton surprised the home side with a goal in the 29th minute through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, to end the first half ahead by a goal to nil. The law allows referees to send off any player who assaults his teammate, although such cases are very rare in football.
