A water well dedicated for drinking in the Douar of Ahdouthan, belonging to the Arkmane commune in the Nador province, was subjected to deliberate sabotage, which sparked outrage among the residents.
The well, which is the main artery for many neighboring douars like Boughriba, Aktoussen, and Ouled Omar, stopped working completely after the solar energy equipment was damaged, cutting off the water supply to many families who depend on it daily. Water, which is considered an essential right in the region that cannot be compromised, suddenly became unavailable after its vital source was destroyed, which made the residents consider this attack as a direct infringement on the right to life and human dignity. In light of the scarcity of water resources, this well was the only hope to meet the families' water needs, which increased the dissatisfaction of citizens who found themselves forced to look for alternative solutions far from their village, which greatly affected their daily lives. The sabotage, which was discovered on Thursday morning, November 27, was not limited to damaging the equipment, but also caused a complete interruption in the water service, which prompted many families to travel long distances to reach other water sources, which deepened their suffering. This incident was not just a normal case of sabotage, but a harsh blow to a basic right, their right to water. Immediately, the administrative police department of the Arkmane commune intervened to inspect the scene and assess the extent of the damage. The competent authorities have started a comprehensive investigation to identify those involved in this criminal act, and take the necessary legal measures to refer them to justice. In the midst of this situation, the residents demanded that the concerned authorities move quickly to identify those responsible for this attack, stressing the need to impose strict penalties on the saboteurs. Protecting water sources is protecting the right to life, which must be a priority in these difficult circumstances that the population is experiencing.
