Today, Sunday in Bouznika, Khalid Elalami Elhouir was elected as the new Secretary General of the Democratic Confederation of Labour, succeeding Abdelkader Zair.
The election of Elalami Elhouir took place during the work of the seventh national conference of this trade union center, which was held between November 28 and 30, under the slogan "Loyalty to the founding principles and the continuation of social and democratic struggle." In a statement to the Moroccan News Agency, Elhouir confirmed that "the success of this conference confirms that the Democratic Confederation of Labour will remain the national trade union organization committed to defending national issues and the rights of the working class." He added that this trade union body is facing major challenges, and dealing responsibly with the issues of the working class and respecting trade union freedoms, stressing that dialogue and collective bargaining is the basis for addressing all national social issues. He continued that the Democratic Confederation of Labour "will continue its struggle strong with its identity and its project for a democratic, social, united and supportive Morocco." The conference, which began its work on Friday with the presence of many political, trade union, associative and human rights figures, was an opportunity to discuss the professional and social conditions of the working class, to evaluate the outcome of the previous stage, and to analyze and draw the features of the priorities of the next stage. Elhouir succeeds Abdelkader Zair, who was elected at the head of the trade union center in November 2018, becoming the third secretary general to lead this union since its establishment by Noubir Amaoui in 1978.
