HIBAPRESS announced that the Civil Guard in Torrevieja, Alicante province, Spain, has arrested two young men, aged 19 and 21, suspected of involvement in a series of jewelry theft crimes with 13 violent operations between September and November 2025.
A police statement clarified that the detainees relied on the "snatch method" (método del tirón), where one would observe the victim while the other quickly executed the theft and fled. The police mentioned that the suspects often targeted people they considered "weak" or unable to defend themselves, which facilitated their escape. The judicial follow-up actually began after the suspects were arrested in late October, following their connection to eight previous theft operations, and they were temporarily released. However, with the emergence of new indicators, they were re-arrested on November 6 after being accused of five additional operations, and one of them was placed in prison by judicial order. The investigations indicate that the stolen items were often chains and gold jewelry, which the perpetrators quickly sold. With their arrest, the National Guard services announced that they also linked 56 similar crimes in recent months to 23 other people, while a portion of the jewelry was recovered and returned to their rightful owners. While the identity of the detainees has not been disclosed, some sources have reported that one of them is of Algerian origin.
