His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God protect him, has graciously approved the adoption of the ninth of December of each year as a National Day for Institutional Mediation.
A statement from the Ombudsman of the Kingdom clarified that this date coincides with the establishment of the institution of the Diwan Al-Mazalim in the year 2001, which makes it embody symbolic and legal connotations that give it a special depth in institutional memory, by recalling the history of the royal message, during which His Majesty King Mohammed VI announced the establishment of the Diwan Al-Mazalim, and at the same time commemorating the date of the issuance of Royal Decree No. 1.01.298 establishing this institution. The statement highlighted that this high decision expresses the great care that His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God protect him, gives to the roles and tasks of institutional mediation in promoting the principles of justice and fairness. It also represents an additional step in a continuous path to consolidate the culture of institutional mediation since its establishment by His Majesty, may God preserve him, of the Diwan Al-Mazalim, with the royal keenness to develop its powers and specializations, leading to the constitutionalization of the Ombudsman institution as one of the independent bodies for the protection of human rights, and as a national institution for governance contributing to the consolidation of the rule of law, and the dissemination of the values of ethics and transparency in institutional management. The statement concluded that the declaration of this national day will make it an annual occasion to remember the virtues of institutional mediation, and a national moment for broad public reflection on good practices and comparative experiences in the fields of mediation, and an ideal opportunity to appreciate the efforts made, and to develop proposals and recommendations related to the project to strengthen the foundations of citizen administration based on justice and fairness.
