HIBAPRESS
The Moroccan women's national football team has lost two places in the world ranking of national teams issued today, Thursday, by the International Federation of Football (FIFA), to finish the year 2025 in 66th place worldwide.
The "Atlas Lionesses" ended the December ranking by obtaining 1399.54 points, which means a decrease of 7.68 points compared to the previous ranking, after they achieved a victory, a draw, and two losses, all in friendly matches. The "Atlas Lionesses" occupy the fifth place in the African ranking, which is led by Nigeria (37th in the world), then South Africa (55th), Ghana (62nd), and Zambia (65th). On the other hand, major changes occurred in the women's world ranking after four months full of continental competitions and a number of international matches included in the qualifiers for the Women's World Cup, although the composition of the national teams occupying the top ten positions remained unchanged. Spain, the world champion (first place, unchanged), won the UEFA Women's Nations League title to strengthen its position at the top of the ranking, after it had regained the lead in the August edition. In a match that decided the title of the continental competition, the Iberian team defeated Germany (3, plus 2), which achieved the biggest rise among the countries occupying the top ten positions, while the United States of America (2nd, unchanged) is located between the two European countries, knowing that it won against Italy in two friendly matches during the last round of international matches, but lost to Portugal in October. For its part, Sweden (5) declined by two places after its defeat against Spain in the semi-finals of the UEFA Women's Nations League, while both France (7, minus 1) and Canada (10, minus 1) lost. In contrast, both Brazil (6, plus 1), the host of the 2027 Women's World Cup, and North Korea (9, plus 1) rose in the ranking table. The new edition of the ranking witnessed the rise of three countries from different continents by no less than 16 places each, and these are the teams of Nicaragua (96), Burkina Faso (118), and American Samoa (137), knowing that the latter achieved amazing wins against Cook Islands and Tonga, respectively, to score more than 63 points in the ranking – more than any other country since the previous edition. Paraguay (46) lost five places, which is the biggest decline among the top fifty. Mali (85) and Egypt (101) also lost six places, compared to four each for India (67), Cameroon (70), and Solomon Islands (77). In contrast, Chad and Libya joined the ranking for the first time in their history, after they met during their participation with Tunisia and the United Afghan Women's National Team in the "FIFA Unite: Women's Series 2025" competitions. With the inclusion of these two African teams, a record was set in the world ranking of women's national teams, which now includes 198 national federations members. The teams of Poland (24), Venezuela (42), Cape Verde (119), and Saudi Arabia (161) reached their highest ranking in the history of this ranking.
