The High Commissioner for Planning, Ahmed Lahlimi Alami, welcomed, on Thursday in Rabat, the “dense and targeted” cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), “a privileged interlocutor in the census process.”

UNFPA is a “committed, determined and useful partner” and “an intermediary with the United Nations system as a whole,” stressed Mr. Lahlimi, who received the new representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Morocco, Marielle Sander.

He explained that UNFPA’s support in the census operation will make it possible to recruit people among the emigrants residing in Morocco during the census period to assist HCP investigators and facilitate contact with this category of the population, specifying that the results of this census will cover all aspects of household life.

He also highlighted the support and assistance of UNFPA in the area of regionalization which led to several advances, allowing the establishment of a system for monitoring economic and social situations, the installation of a regional statistics system and the monitoring of the development of these regions with the involvement of all regional operators.

For her part, Ms. Sander expressed UNFPA’s commitment to supporting the census process in the Kingdom, praising the excellent work accomplished by the HCP.

She further stressed the need to grasp the scope and importance of data and fact-checking, noting the imperative to redouble efforts to better understand the needs of the population.

The Director of Statistics at the HCP, Oussama Marseli, noted that the census experience is 100% Moroccan, noting that the Kingdom is among the rare countries in the world to have carried out the census with the HCP’s own expertise and the development of an integrated application for mapping, collection, and dissemination of data.

“We are proud of this experience and willing to share it with African and Arab countries,” he added.
