HIBAPRESS – Barcelona: Omar Razzini
The Spanish city of Barcelona witnessed heavy rainfall last night, which lasted for hours, leading to the flooding of a number of main streets and their transformation into water pools that obstructed traffic and caused widespread traffic confusion within the city.
Local residents reported that the water level rose noticeably in some neighborhoods, while emergency teams were deployed in several locations to try to drain the water and reopen closed roads. Authorities also called on citizens to exercise caution while driving and to stay away from low-lying areas where water may accumulate heavily.
Social media users circulated photos and videos showing vehicles moving slowly in the flooded streets, in a scene that reflects the amount of rainfall that the city experienced in a short period. Although no human losses were recorded, some shops and low-lying homes were damaged as a result of water seeping into them.
It is worth mentioning that Barcelona occasionally witnesses strong rain waves during the winter, but the city's residents hope that these rains will contribute to improving the water level after a period of relative drought that hit areas in the Catalonia region during the past months.
