HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyaoui
The city of Fez regained, on the evening of Monday, December 29, 2025, one of its prominent historical landmarks, after the inauguration of Heri Boutouil in its new guise following restoration and rehabilitation works, under the supervision of the Wali of the Fez-Meknes region, the Governor of the Fez Prefecture, Mr. Khalid Ait Taleb, and in the presence of official figures, elected officials, and those interested in heritage and cultural affairs.
This project comes within the framework of ongoing efforts to protect the historical and architectural heritage of the scientific capital, as Heri Boutouil is considered one of the urban testimonies that encapsulates a part of the memory of Fez, which makes its rehabilitation a qualitative step that enhances heritage preservation and the valuation of historical spaces. The event was not limited to the official inauguration only, but the space turned into a platform to celebrate local creativity, by organizing an exhibition of traditional industry, highlighting the richness and diversity of craft products, in an initiative with cultural and economic implications, especially with its coincidence with the organization of the African Cup of Nations. This exhibition aims to connect the continental sporting event with the cultural and civilizational dimension of Morocco, and to highlight the traditional industry as a lever for local development, and an opportunity to introduce the craft skills that the city abounds with. Local actors are betting that the rehabilitation of Heri Boutouil and opening its doors to cultural and economic activities will contribute to revitalizing the tourism movement, supporting the local economy, and enhancing the position of Fez as a historical destination capable of keeping pace with major events within a comprehensive and sustainable development vision.
