HIBAPRESS – Shafiq Anouri
Activists have cast doubt on the official narrative announced by the separatist "Polisario" Front today, Friday, regarding the death of leader Mustafa Muhammad Ali Sayed El-Bashir, who was known for his constant criticism of the leadership of the "Rabouni group".
Ali Sayed El-Bashir had previously made fiery statements regarding the description of a number of "Polisario" leaders as "ministers", including himself, considering that these designations were far from reality, and that he, along with the rest of the Front's officials, were merely "refugees".
The same leader also criticized Sahrawis' celebration of the Algerian team's victory over the Moroccan team in the 2021 Arab Cup, considering that "Sahrawis are closer to Morocco than Algeria, and our ancestors are closer to Morocco…".
The separatist leader added in his statement: "I cannot stand the Algerians and I do not know them, my grandfather studied in Morocco, and my family used to deal with Morocco, and what I am saying now I can say to the Algerians."
He explained in his previous statement that the only thing that makes him tolerate the Algerians is achieving the goal of the Polisario, but if it were up to him, he would not sleep even one night in Algeria."
Sayed El-Bashir's criticism did not stop at this point, as he expressed his displeasure, on more than one occasion, regarding the way the "Polisario" Front is run, considering that the decision is centered in the hands of a narrow circle of leaders.
Based on his precedents in severely criticizing the "Polisario", activists on social media did not rule out the hypothesis of his liquidation by Algerian intelligence in order to remove dissenting voices from within the Front.
Observers believe that the current circumstances surrounding the Moroccan Sahara file; with the imminent resolution of the conflict in favor of the Kingdom, have prompted Algeria to hasten his liquidation to avoid any controversial statements that would cause internal divisions.
