HIBAPRESS – Rabat
International reactions to the recent events in Venezuela continue after the United States announced the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife and their transfer outside the country, but what is striking is the state of Algerian silence mixed with confusion, amid anticipation of an official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Algeria.
This anticipation comes at a time when Maduro is a historical ally of Algeria and President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and is also known for his support for the separatist Polisario Front. However, the silence of Algeria so far reflects, according to observers, the difficulty of the regime in directly challenging the United States, despite the historical relations and political rapprochement between Algeria and Venezuela. In contrast, the Algerian media described what happened in Venezuela as a "real farce," pointing to the unexpected rapid fall of the regime, while regional and international public opinion remains awaiting the official position of Algeria, and whether it will take a clear step to support its ally or will settle for the usual statements. Observers believe that this moment constitutes a diplomatic test for Tebboune and his regime, between commitment to historical allies and fear of confronting a major power such as the United States, at a time when everyone is closely following what Algeria will officially announce in the coming hours.
