J.D. Vance, the American Vice President, justified the attack on Venezuela and the arrest of its president, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife today, Saturday, considering that the operation falls within the framework of "recovering stolen oil" and stopping drug trafficking activities.
Vance explained that U.S. President Donald Trump offered several options before making the decision, but he stressed from the beginning the need to stop drug trafficking and restore the oil that he said was stolen from the United States. He added, in a comment on the "X" platform, that Maduro "was the last to discover that Trump is serious about implementing what he announces," stressing that the Venezuelan president faces several indictments in the United States related to terrorism associated with drugs, and he cannot escape accountability on the pretext of residing in a presidential palace in Caracas. The American administration accuses Maduro of leading a vast drug trafficking network, accusations that the Venezuelan president denies, accusing Washington of seeking to overthrow him with the aim of controlling his country's oil reserves, which are the largest in the world. This comes in the context of previous American measures, including imposing a blockade on the movement of Venezuelan oil tankers and seizing oil shipments, which led to a sharp decline in Venezuela's exports and the accumulation of its stocks, and forcing the national oil company to slow down deliveries and store oil on board tankers.
