HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyawi
National Road Number 12, specifically at the Bab Nouayad mountain pass connecting Imilchil and Agbala, is experiencing a worrying situation due to repeated rockslides, coinciding with the wave of snowfall and rainfall that the region has been experiencing in recent days, which is normal with the weather fluctuations, heavy rainfall and soil moisture.
An informed source stated that large rock masses have detached from the top of the mountain and fallen along the side of the road, posing a real and direct danger to the safety of users of this mountainous road axis, especially given the difficult terrain, narrow passages, and poor visibility resulting from weather fluctuations. The same source added that this road section is a vital artery for the local population, connecting the commune of Imilchil to its rural and urban environment, and is used daily for the movement of people and the transport of essential materials and services, indicating that any potential road interruption could lead to an exacerbation of the region's isolation, especially during the winter season, which is characterized by harsh climatic conditions. In the same context, a number of citizens expressed their deep concern about the current situation of the road, demanding that the regional authorities and the competent authorities intervene urgently in order to remove the fallen rocks, secure the sides of the road, and take proactive preventive measures to reduce the recurrence of these landslides, avoiding any potential human or material losses. It was also noted the need for caution and care on the part of drivers and road users, especially with the continuation of rainfall and snowfall, and the possibility of renewed landslides in the coming days, pending effective intervention that ensures road safety and preserves the right of residents to safe transport.
