HIBAPRESS – Mohammed Zariouh
In a surprising move, the Regional Director of the Education Academy in the Oriental region decided to dismiss the Regional Director of the Ministry of National Education in Nador, Hamid Tabatit, from his duties and appoint Said Al-Atifi, the Regional Director of the Taourirt directorate, as his successor. This decision comes at a time when the education sector in the region is experiencing a state of tension following a series of protests and strikes organized by education unions.
This decision is attributed to a series of strikes undertaken by the union coordination consisting of the CDT, FDT, and FNE unions, protesting the deterioration of educational conditions and poor management within the regional directorate. The unions have strongly accused those responsible for managing the sector in Nador, holding them responsible for the imbalances that have affected the functioning of educational institutions. The education workforce in Nador had organized a general strike and a massive march towards the prefecture headquarters of the region, which significantly disrupted movement in many schools. Hundreds of teachers gathered in front of the regional directorate headquarters demanding change, expressing their rejection of the current situation continuing. In previous statements, the union coordination held the dismissed regional director responsible for the crisis, confirming his failure to protect the educational cadres from the attacks to which some male and female teachers were exposed by strangers, without taking any measures to protect educational institutions or communicate with the security authorities. For their part, the unions considered that the current situation reflects a deficiency in administration and a lack of human resources, which has exacerbated the crisis in the education sector in Nador. The unions called for opening a serious and responsible dialogue with the regional academy and the Ministry of National Education to address these imbalances and ensure the improvement of the public school's situation in the region.
