HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyawi
The commune of Ain Chkaf in the Moulay Yacoub province witnessed a tragic incident last Sunday morning, after a heavy truck, whose driver was intoxicated, crashed into a hotel that included a nightclub, resulting in the death of two people and the injury of others with varying degrees of severity, in addition to significant material damage to the place.
Following the accident, a joint committee from the Wilaya of the Fes-Meknes region and the Moulay Yacoub prefecture conducted a field visit to all the hotel facilities on Monday morning to assess the circumstances of the accident and evaluate the extent of the institution's compliance with the applicable laws. The committee's report revealed several violations, most notably the hotel management's violation of the prefectural decision regulating the operating hours of nightclubs and restaurants, as the nightclub was open after four in the morning, which is the legal closing time. Based on these violations, the local authorities made a decision to permanently withdraw the license to sell alcoholic beverages from the hotel, in a step aimed at protecting the patrons and ensuring compliance with the laws, without resorting to the complete closure of the hotel establishment. Observers confirm that this incident reflects the need to intensify monitoring operations on hotels and tourist establishments that are suspected of irregularities, demanding that the prefecture committees be more firm to avoid the recurrence of such tragic incidents. The security services are still continuing their investigations to determine the full responsibilities, pending the outcome of the judicial investigations regarding the truck crash that shook the province.
