HIBAPRESS – Rabat
The Association of Bar Associations in Morocco has escalated its protests by announcing the entry into a new phase of struggle, through a complete halt to the performance of professional services, in protest against what it described as the government's insistence on passing the draft law on the legal profession without consensus.
This decision came after a meeting of the Association's office, held remotely on January 6, 2026, to evaluate the implementation of the work stoppage decision taken in Marrakech and to discuss the inclusion of the draft law on the agenda of the government council expected on January 8. The association confirmed the registration of a wide participation of lawyers in this step, considering it an expression of the unity of the professional body and its rejection of the policy of imposing a fait accompli. The association announced a complete halt to the performance of professional services on January 8 and 9, 2026, in addition to the temporary suspension of the tasks of practicing deans during the same two days. It also revealed its intention to organize a national stand, the details of which will be announced later, while emphasizing its readiness to continue the escalation according to the outcomes of the legislative path of the draft law, while keeping the office meeting open to keep abreast of developments.
