HIBAPRESS – Casablanca
The suffering of the homeless in the streets of Moroccan cities is intensifying with the continued noticeable drop in temperatures, as the icy cold nights have become a real threat to their lives and health.
The absence of shelter, cover, and basic means of heating puts this vulnerable group in direct confrontation with harsh climatic conditions, increasing their daily suffering and exposing them to serious health risks. In light of this worrying situation, the voices of civil society organizations are rising, demanding urgent intervention from the relevant authorities, by providing temporary and immediate solutions to protect the homeless from the cold wave. These bodies emphasize the importance of utilizing unused public buildings at night, such as youth centers, and temporarily converting them into shelters that provide the minimum conditions of dignity and safety. Observers believe that dealing with the phenomenon of homelessness, especially during periods of severe cold, requires a humanitarian and solidarity approach that goes beyond circumstantial solutions, through coordinating efforts between local authorities and civil society. Protecting lives remains a top priority, which necessitates accelerating the pace of intervention to spare the homeless the dangers of the severe cold that characterizes these days in various regions of Morocco.
