HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Elbaz
Sportitalia channel announced, through presenter and designer Ennoss and with the participation of African football expert Malo Mbasinkatu, an official invitation to host Congolese fan Michel Koka Mboladinga on the channel's platform, against the backdrop of the widespread controversy sparked by an act described as unethical from an Algerian player during the round of 16 match between Algeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo during the African Cup of Nations.
Michel Koka had drawn the world's attention with a silent stance that lasted 120 minutes, embodying the symbolism of the late leader Patrice Lumumba, in a historical and humanitarian message that received widespread interaction. However, this symbolism turned into a matter of controversy in the 119th minute of the match, after an Algerian player imitated the fan's position in a way that observers considered a mockery and unsportsmanlike behavior, which sparked a wave of widespread criticism.
Under pressure from public opinion, the player was later forced to issue a formal apology, in an attempt to contain the anger and respect the feelings of the Congolese fan.
The organizers of the Sport Italia program confirmed that hosting Michel Koka has become necessary to clarify the background of his initiative and put the event in its correct context, and to transform the incident from an offense to a wider discussion about respecting historical symbols and the role of fans in enriching football with its humanitarian values.
It is worth noting that the Sport Italia channel broadcast all African Cup of Nations matches for free, in a move that received widespread praise and contributed to enhancing the follow-up of the African tournament among the Italian and European public.
