HIBAPRESS – Barcelona: Omar Razzini
The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, called from the capital Madrid for the rebuilding of a new approach in the European Union's relations with the countries of the Southern neighborhood, based on the transition from the logic of traditional cooperation to advanced strategic partnerships, more profound and comprehensive, that respond to the rapid regional and international transformations.
Sanchez affirmed that Morocco constitutes a strategic axis in this new vision, given its prominent role in supporting regional stability, enhancing security, and accelerating economic and social development, in addition to its effective contribution to managing immigration issues, combating irregular networks, and developing renewable energy projects. The Spanish official explained that strengthening the partnership between the European Union and Morocco not only serves the interests of both countries, but also benefits the two sides of the Mediterranean, and contributes to consolidating security and prosperity in the region as a whole. He also stressed the importance of building relations based on mutual trust, respect, and practical cooperation to face common challenges, foremost among them climate change, economic crises, and geopolitical disturbances. Sanchez added that the next stage requires a new European vision towards the South, based on investing in development, supporting stability, and encouraging economic partnerships, instead of being satisfied with narrow security approaches, considering that Morocco represents a model of a reliable partner capable of playing a pivotal role in this direction. The Spanish Prime Minister concluded his statement by emphasizing that the future of European-Mediterranean relations passes through strengthening cooperation with Morocco, as a key player in achieving balance and stability in the region, and ensuring a more secure and prosperous future for the peoples of the Southern neighborhood.
