Informed sources reported that the National Gendarmerie Brigade referred, on Saturday, 13 elements of the corps, including a company commander, to the Public Prosecutor at the Court of Appeal in Fez, as part of the ongoing judicial investigations into the case of the murder of a police officer during a security intervention to arrest a suspect linked to drug trafficking networks in the Imzourn area, on the outskirts of Al Hoceima.
According to available data, this referral came after investigations initiated by the competent authorities under the order of the Public Prosecution, with the aim of determining the nature of the potential relationships that linked the suspect, nicknamed "El Galbrozi," to a number of Royal Gendarmerie elements, in light of the results of technical expertise conducted on their mobile phones.
The same sources added that the technical investigations revealed the existence of phone communications between the suspect and some Royal Gendarmerie elements, which prompted a deepening of the investigation to uncover the nature and background of these communications, and to verify their extent of connection to the criminal activities attributed to the person concerned.
The details of the case date back to a security intervention aimed at arresting the suspect in the Imzourn area, after he, according to the data circulated about the incident, opened fire on security personnel, resulting in the death of a police officer from the city of Ksar El Kbir. The operation also witnessed attempts by individuals suspected of being linked to the person concerned to intervene to enable him to escape the grip of the security services.
In a related context, the investigations extended to verifying the suspect's potential connections to criminal networks active in drug smuggling and human trafficking, especially in light of data indicating that he was released from prison about a year ago, after his involvement in a case related to human trafficking.
Judicial procedures are expected to reveal more details related to this case, while investigations continue to determine the nature of the supposed relationships between the various parties and to assign legal responsibilities, while respecting the presumption of innocence until final judicial rulings are issued.
