Axel Belabbas, a leader in the Movement for the Self-Determination of Kabylie (MAK), revealed that the Tizi Ouzou court issued a two-year prison sentence against JS Kabylie fan, Ilyas Kernin, for wearing a shirt bearing the complete map of Morocco, on charges of "undermining national unity".
Belabbas explained that the young man was arrested during one of his team's matches, confirming that he does not belong to any political activity, but is merely a sports fan, expressing his condemnation of what he described as the severity of the sentence and the Algerian authorities' strictness in dealing with these cases. The decision sparked widespread controversy on social media, where followers considered it an infringement on freedom of expression, in the context of the Algerian tightening of control over symbols related to the territorial integrity of Morocco.
