The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the opening of an official investigation into events witnessed in the quarter-final matches of the African Cup of Nations, TotalEnergies, Morocco 2025, after observing unacceptable behaviors from some players and officials.
CAF clarified that it has collected official reports on the two matches, along with photographic evidence, related to the match between the Cameroon national team and the Moroccan national team, as well as the Algeria vs. Nigeria match, indicating that these data reveal potential actions that are not in line with the rules of discipline and professionalism in force in continental competitions. According to the statement, the African Union referred these cases to its disciplinary committee, in order to investigate them in depth, and take appropriate measures if any violations were proven by the parties concerned. CAF also revealed a review of footage of an incident in which some media representatives are suspected of being involved, concerning inappropriate behavior within the mixed zone, which is the space allocated for media statements after matches. The Confederation of African Football stressed its strong condemnation of any unsportsmanlike or unprofessional behavior that occurs during matches, especially those that target the refereeing team or the organizers of the matches, stressing its commitment to strictly applying the laws to ensure respect for the rules of professionalism and the conduct of competitions in an atmosphere of discipline and respect. This move comes within the framework of CAF's keenness to preserve the image of its continental competitions, and to ensure the integrity of the competition and discipline inside and outside the stadiums, during the African Cup of Nations held in Morocco.
