According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), each year, about 2,000 million tons of dust enter the atmosphere, “obscuring the sky and harming air quality” in regions thousands of kilometers away, but also “affecting economies, ecosystems, weather and climate.” This is mostly a natural process, but a significant portion is the result of poor water and land management.
