The Senegalese-Moroccan Friendship and Brotherhood Group affirmed that the final match of the Africa Cup of Nations (Morocco 2025), expected this Sunday in Rabat between the Senegal and Morocco teams, constitutes a "rare gift" and an opportunity to celebrate the excellence of African relations, especially between the two countries.
The group explained, in a statement, that this sporting encounter transcends the narrow framework of football to become "a moment of African unity," which can be likened, in terms of its spirit, to the ancient Olympic Games, where sports competition enhanced mutual respect and the unity of peoples. The former Senegalese Minister, and head of the group, Madou Kane, said: "In this historic moment when the two brotherly countries are preparing to play the Africa Cup final in Rabat, I address the two sides of the final, not as a supporter of one team against another, but as a witness to a deep brotherhood, stemming from a shared history and transcending the boundaries of sport." The same source added that the final match on Sunday will not be a confrontation between two competing teams, but between "two branches of one African tree, rooted deep in history." The group mentioned that Senegal and Morocco are united by deep historical, cultural, and spiritual ties, formed in particular through the legacy of the Almoravid and Almohad states, and the caravan routes that connected the African coast to the city of Fez via Timbuktu, as well as the joint resistance to colonialism. The statement concluded that "On Sunday, regardless of the winner, Africa is the victor. May this final match be an anthem to our friendship, and proof to the world that intense competition can coexist with deep respect."
