HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyawi
The rapid deterioration of National Road No. 29, linking the city of Taza and the Maghraoua region and a number of villages belonging to the community, has sparked a wave of widespread discontent among drivers and the local population, after signs of erosion and collapse of the road sides appeared, even though its preparation works were only a few weeks old.
Identical testimonies from users of this vital road axis, supported by photos and clips that were circulated on social media, stated that large parts of the road edges collapsed, leaving sharp and dangerous asphalt edges, which caused a noticeable reduction in the road width, which increased the risks of traffic accidents, especially in narrow sections and bends. A number of drivers confirmed that the overtaking process has become almost impossible, while speed has become a real threat to road safety, in light of the complete absence of protective barriers and warning signs, which increases the seriousness of the situation, especially during night periods or when it rains. This worrying situation is not limited to road users, but rather directly affects the residents of the neighboring villages, who rely on National Road No. 29 in their daily travels to markets, health centers and educational institutions, which has made them live in relative isolation and continuous suffering. In light of this situation, the voices of local actors and citizens are rising, demanding urgent intervention from the competent authorities, in order to open a serious investigation into the conditions of the implementation of the road preparation works, and to determine the extent of compliance with quality standards, with a call for a comprehensive rehabilitation of National Road No. 29, instead of settling for solutions that quickly erode, threatening the lives of citizens and hindering the path of local development.
