The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, affirmed this Monday morning in Rabat that Moroccan-Senegalese relations constitute a solid model for African cooperation based on mutual trust and genuine solidarity, praising the steadfast position of the Republic of Senegal supporting the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and its foremost national cause.
This came during the work of the fifteenth session of the Moroccan-Senegalese Joint High Commission, where the Head of Government commended the clear and responsible support expressed by Senegal within regional and international forums in favor of Morocco's sovereignty over its southern territories, as well as its support for the autonomy initiative as a serious, realistic, and sole solution to settle the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, as confirmed by Security Council resolutions, the latest of which is Resolution 2797. Aziz Akhannouch explained that this position reflects the depth of the historical and political ties that unite the two countries and embodies the level of mutual trust and convergence of views on major strategic issues, stressing that Senegal's support for the Kingdom's territorial integrity is in line with its vision based on respecting the sovereignty of states and enhancing stability in the African continent. In the same context, the Head of Government highlighted that Morocco, under the wise leadership of King Mohammed VI, has made African cooperation a steadfast strategic choice, based on effective solidarity and joint development, which explains the continuous momentum that Moroccan-Senegalese relations are witnessing at various levels. He pointed out that the challenges facing the regional environment, especially in the Sahel region and the Atlantic space, necessitate strengthening coordination between African countries and adopting a collective approach based on dialogue and integration, emphasizing that the stability of the continent remains contingent on the consecration of the logic of cooperation and respect for the national sovereignty of states. In this framework, Aziz Akhannouch recalled the pioneering royal initiatives launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, foremost among which is the initiative to enable the Sahel countries to access the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Atlantic Royal Initiative, which aims to establish an African space for economic integration and joint development, through structured projects in the fields of energy, food security, logistical connectivity, and sustainable development. The Head of Government also highlighted the importance of the African Atlantic gas pipeline project, linking Nigeria and Morocco, as a strategic project that reflects the depth of South-South cooperation, and enhances energy security and economic development on the continent, noting the pivotal role played by Senegal in the success of this continental project. At the end of his speech, Aziz Akhannouch reiterated that the strength of Moroccan-Senegalese relations and the unwavering support that Dakar provides for the Kingdom's national cause constitute a fundamental pillar for strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries and for building an African model based on solidarity, stability, and joint development, in a way that serves the interests of the two brotherly peoples and enhances the continent's position on the international level.
