Recent data from the "Numbeo" platform show that Tangier topped Moroccan cities in terms of basic living costs at the beginning of 2026, surpassing Casablanca and Rabat, as a result of rising prices of food and consumer services.
The general cost of living index in Tangier recorded 36 points compared to 35 points in Casablanca and 34 points in Rabat. Despite this, housing costs put Casablanca and Rabat in the lead with an average of 26 points each, compared to 25 points in Tangier, where rental prices are still relatively lower (12 points in Tangier versus 13 in Casablanca and 14 in Rabat). On the food basket level, Tangier recorded the highest national index with 34 points, ahead of Casablanca (33 points) and Rabat (32 points). The "Numbeo" platform relies on user contributions in its data to measure the disparities between cities globally, and it is not a substitute for the official inflation statistics issued by the High Commission for Planning.
