HIBAPRESS
The Senegalese-Moroccan artist Halima Gadji, who passed away last Monday, January 26, at the age of 36, left a great state of sadness in artistic circles, as well as on social media in Africa and Europe, where a number of African stars offered their condolences and consolations.
The curtain fell on the artistic and humanitarian path of the actress, leaving a prominent mark on the African audiovisual scene. Despite her name being associated with the character "Marim Dial" in the series "Maîtresse d'un homme marié", her presence went beyond the role, to be a bold artistic voice and a woman who broke the prevailing molds. Halima was born on August 25, 1989, in Dakar, to a Senegalese father and a Moroccan-Algerian mother, and she grew up in a multicultural environment that shaped her awareness and artistic choices. She left school early, defying many difficulties, the most prominent of which was her stuttering, but that did not prevent her from making her way with determination and insistence. After modest beginnings in advertising and fashion shows, her real opportunity came with the director Abd al-Wahid Woon in the series "Tundu Wundu", who believed in her talent and opened the way for her to impose her presence in works that resonated widely inside and outside Senegal. In an official statement, the Ministry of Culture, Traditional Industries and Tourism in Senegal mourned the deceased, expressing its deep sadness for this great affliction, and confirming that Halima Gadji was a "talented artist with an exceptional career", who left a clear mark on drama and audiovisual productions, and contributed with her impeccable performance to the advancement of Senegalese drama and its transformation into a space for thinking and societal dialogue. The statement added that the deceased was not just a successful actress, but a model for the artist committed to the issues of her society and imbued with its human and cultural values, before the Minister of Culture, on behalf of the President of the Republic, the government and the Senegalese people, offered his warmest condolences to the family of the deceased and the artistic family and all her fans inside and outside Senegal, praying to God to grant her vast mercy and inspire her family with patience and solace.
