Three Moroccan citizens were killed on Wednesday evening by the Algerian army near the eastern borders of the Kingdom, in an incident described by the Algerian Ministry of Defense as a "quality" operation against smugglers, a description rejected by local sources as inaccurate.
The Algerian Ministry of Defense said that joint detachments from the army, border guards, and customs carried out an ambush in the Ghanama area of Bechar province, resulting in the killing of three Moroccans and the arrest of a fourth, under the pretext of attempting to smuggle quantities of processed cannabis. However, local sources suggested that the victims were Moroccan farmers who were near the border strip, considering the incident a serious attack on unarmed civilians, and stressing that the accusation of drug smuggling is not based on any documented evidence.
