Croatian national team captain Luka Modric has extended his contract with Real Madrid and will stay in the Spanish capital for another season, the Madrid club announced on Wednesday.
“Real Madrid and Luka Modrić have agreed to extend the contract of our captain, who remains tied to the club until June 30, 2025,” the reigning champion said in a statement.
The 38-year-old midfielder had already extended his contract by one year last year, despite strong interest from Saudi Arabia, who were looking to recruit him.
Luka Modric was pushed to the Madrid bench last year due in particular to the arrival of English midfielder Jude Bellingham.
However, he remains very popular with Real fans, with whom he has won six Champions Leagues, four La Liga titles and two Copa del Rey titles.
The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner, who arrived from Tottenham in 2012, is the player who has “the greatest number of titles in the history of our club”, with which he has played “534 matches”, Real stresses.
The Croatian international became the oldest goalscorer in history at a European football championship this summer, scoring against Italy.
