Under the supervision of the commander of the Royal Gendarmerie Brigade in Sidi Ifni, and with the support of auxiliary forces, local authorities intervened in recent days to counter an attempt by nomad livestock to settle in a number of villages belonging to the province. This followed the arrival of large trucks loaded with sheep from the direction of Oued Eddahab, which intended to be stationed in the Ait Baamrane region.
According to available data, various competent authorities immediately prevented the unloading of the livestock herds upon their arrival, in a preemptive step aimed at avoiding the serious damages that this concentration could cause to the local vegetation, especially argan and cactus trees, in addition to agricultural crops, which constitute the main source of livelihood for the population of the region.
This intervention comes in the context of growing concerns about the increasing pressure on the environmental and agricultural area, especially in light of the fragility of the natural balances in the region, and the environmental and economic repercussions that may result from overgrazing, directly affecting the stability of the local population.
In contrast, nomad herders expressed their displeasure with this decision, considering that it came after they had traveled long distances and in difficult circumstances, stressing their need to find alternative solutions that take into account their social and economic conditions, without harming the plant wealth and environmental field of the region.
The concerned authorities are expected to continue their efforts to find a balanced approach that reconciles the protection of natural resources and the guarantee of social peace, within the framework of respecting the laws governing grazing and movement, and preserving the rights and interests of all concerned parties.
