Following its review of the rulings issued by the Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which it recently received, regarding the events that accompanied the final match of the Africa Cup of Nations, which brought together on Sunday, January 18, 2026, the Moroccan national team and its Senegalese counterpart, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation announced its position on these decisions.
The aforementioned match witnessed the withdrawal of the players and staff of the Senegalese national team, in addition to the invasion of its fans onto the pitch, which caused a state of chaos and rioting, and the resulting serious repercussions that affected the safety of the match and its organizational image. After studying the issued rulings, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation considered that the prescribed sanctions do not rise to the level of the seriousness and danger of the events witnessed in the final, which was confirmed in an official letter addressed by the President of the Federation to the President of the African Football Confederation. Out of its keenness to preserve all rights guaranteed by law, and to defend the interests of national football, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation decided to submit a formal appeal against the rulings issued by the Disciplinary Committee, in accordance with the legal procedures in force within the CAF structures.
