The Axios website revealed that the US President's envoy, Steve Wittkoff, and Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, visited on Saturday the American aircraft carrier "USS Abraham Lincoln" stationed in the Arabian Sea.
The Axios correspondent Barak Ravid reported, citing two informed sources: "President Trump's envoys, Jared Kushner and Steve Wittkoff, visited the American aircraft carrier "Abraham Lincoln" stationed in the Arabian Sea near Iran on Saturday." He added that the commander of the US Central Command, Admiral Brad Cooper, was also present. According to "Axios", the aircraft carrier "Abraham Lincoln" and its combat group are the "spearhead" for any potential American strike against Iran if the escalation between the two countries develops. The visit of Kushner and Wittkoff comes just one day after indirect talks between Washington and Tehran, in a move described as carrying a clear message to the Iranian side that the United States has other options if the negotiating paths fail. The US President had announced on Friday that his country and Iran had held "very good talks" in Oman, confirming that Tehran "wants to reach an agreement", and indicating a new round of negotiations. But Trump stressed, in return, that Iran "will not possess a nuclear weapon", warning that failure to reach an agreement will lead to "very serious consequences." These developments come in the context of a delicate balance between the diplomatic path and the display of American military force in the region, amid the continued tension over the Iranian nuclear file and the future of negotiations between the two parties. For his part, the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Abdul Rahim Mousavi, confirmed earlier on Saturday that "any adventure against Iran will have dire consequences." Senior Advisor to the Iranian Chief of Staff, Sardar Hossein Ashtari, also said on Saturday that his country is working to equip itself with new equipment to face any potential American attack.
