HIBAPRESS – Barcelona: Omar Razzini
Spain is witnessing intense political debate within the halls of the Spanish Parliament, against the backdrop of proposals related to the regularization of undocumented immigrants residing in the country. In the midst of this discussion, the Popular Party (PP) and **VOX** parties announced their rejection of any initiative aimed at granting collective legal residency to undocumented immigrants.
This political escalation comes at a time when the country is experiencing increasing pressure related to the immigration file, especially in light of the increasing number of arrivals across the Mediterranean Sea and the Canary Islands. The two opposition parties believe that any step to regularize the situation may encourage more irregular immigration, considering that the solution lies in tightening border control and strengthening deportation policies.
In contrast, left-wing parties and the governing coalition defend the regularization proposals as a humanitarian and economic step, aimed at integrating thousands of immigrants into the official labor market, ensuring their social rights, and reducing the informal economy.
This sharp division reflects a broader divergence in views on managing the immigration file in Spain, between those who focus on the security dimension and border control, and those who call for a social approach that balances humanitarian obligations with the requirements of internal stability.
Discussions are expected to continue within the Parliament in the coming weeks, amid public and media anticipation.
