The "We Are For You" association in the city of Fnideq announced the suspension of an awareness activity that was expected to be organized in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan. This activity consisted of a scientific lecture led by Professor Yassine El Omari, following administrative developments that occurred just one day before its scheduled date.
The association clarified, in an official statement, that it had initiated all applicable legal procedures, notifying the competent local authorities who granted their approval for the organization of the activity, and also obtained the approval of the Culture House administration to host the meeting. It highlighted that the event saw widespread and unprecedented demand for invitations, which reflects, in its words, the city's residents' interest in such scientific initiatives. However, the association stated that it was surprised to be informed by the local authorities of the need for prior coordination with the local scientific council of the prefecture of M'diq-Fnideq, as it is the authority overseeing the lecture. It added that it immediately informed the council of the matter, but was surprised by the refusal to receive the notification on the grounds of lack of jurisdiction, while attempts to communicate with the council's president were unsuccessful. In light of what it described as a "confused and contradictory situation," the local authorities decided to suspend the activity pending a coordination meeting between the various parties concerned, also justifying the decision by the expected attendance of a number of citizens exceeding the capacity of the hall hosting the event. The association affirmed, at the conclusion of its statement, that it had complied with all legal procedures and acted in good faith, considering that the suspension of the activity at this time caused moral damage to the image of collective work and aroused the displeasure of a number of citizens. It also stressed that it reserves its right to take whatever legal steps it deems appropriate to protect its rights, while confirming its continued performance of its societal mission and the call for the adoption of a clear participatory approach that respects the law and appreciates the role of civil society.
