The Moroccan Organization for Human Rights has called for expanding the scope of the provinces declared as disaster zones, following the recent floods, to include the provinces of Chefchaouen, Taounate, and Al Hoceima, considering that the damages recorded in these areas justify their inclusion in benefiting from the compensation mechanisms stipulated by law.

A statement from the organization, a copy of which was received by “HIBAPRESS”, stated that the government's announcement to enable the provinces of Kenitra, Larache, Sidi Slimane, and Sidi Kacem to receive the compensations prescribed by Law 110.14 related to covering the consequences of catastrophic events is a positive step towards activating the legal provisions organizing individual and spatial damage compensation. However, the human rights body stressed that its field follow-up of the consequences of the floods showed the recording of serious damages in other provinces, including Chefchaouen, Taounate, and Al Hoceima, which resulted in the collapse of homes, the evacuation of families from their homes, the interruption of roads, and soil erosion, in addition to the disruption of a number of vital facilities and the impact on economic activities. The organization considered that limiting the declaration of "disaster zones" to only four provinces would deprive the residents of the areas not included from the mechanisms of redress and compensation provided by law, calling for the issuance of a supplementary decision that integrates the affected provinces within the economic and social program directed to the declared areas. In this context, the Executive Office of the organization announced its intention to correspond with the Head of Government to present this demand officially, within the framework of what it described as the advocacy role undertaken by the body in defending the economic and social rights of citizens, calling on all citizens to adhere to the directives of the vigilance committees, in order to preserve physical safety and safeguard the right to life, in light of the continuing climate fluctuations.
