A journalist working for a local media outlet in the city of Tangier was subjected to a dangerous physical assault followed by theft during the early hours of last Sunday, near the Tangier City district headquarters, in an incident that raises increasing concerns about security in the area.
According to accurate data, the person in question was the victim of a surveillance operation carried out by unknown individuals, after he noticed suspicious movements of people who were following him closely, which prompted him to try to escape to avoid any potential confrontation. However, his attempt failed after he stumbled and fell to the ground, suffering serious injuries to his head and face. Despite his critical health condition, the journalist managed to get up and move away from the scene of the assault in search of a safe haven, where he took refuge in the vicinity of the district headquarters in order to regain his breath. However, his health quickly deteriorated, and he lost consciousness due to serious injuries, which the attackers exploited, according to his statement, to seize his personal bag. The victim explained that the stolen bag contained his professional computer and electronic equipment used in his journalistic work, in addition to personal documents and a significant sum of money, which caused him substantial material and professional losses. After regaining consciousness, the person concerned went to the security services of the General Directorate of National Security, where he filed an official complaint supported by a medical certificate proving his temporary disability for a period of 21 days, which reflects the severity of the injuries he sustained as a result of this assault. In the same context, a number of residents of the area confirmed that the urban district environment witnesses similar incidents from time to time, especially during the night hours, attributing this to poor lighting in some areas, although the site is in the heart of the city and witnesses heavy daily traffic. The security services continue their investigations and intensive investigations to identify the perpetrators of this assault, with a view to arresting them and bringing them before the judiciary, while the incident again raises questions about the need to strengthen safety conditions and protect citizens, especially those working in the media field while performing their duties.
