HIBAPRESS – Ahmed Al-Musaid
In a pre-emptive strike against cross-border criminal networks, security forces in the city of Saidia, in the early hours of Thursday, Ramadan 8th, managed to foil a sophisticated attempt to smuggle a quantity of "hashish" using drones.
The operation came following precise field monitoring of suspicious movements on the ring road. The intervention resulted in the seizure of a "Mercedes 220" car that was parked in a neighboring field. Initial inspections revealed that the vehicle was carrying forged license plates, in an attempt by the smugglers to camouflage and evade automatic and manual surveillance.
A thorough search inside the car led to the seizure of a sophisticated logistical arsenal, including approximately 20 kilograms of "hashish" prepared for smuggling, two drones, two remote control devices, and 40 special batteries, indicating the planning of repeated flights or long distances.
While the suspects took advantage of the darkness and the nature of the area to flee to an unknown destination, the competent security services, under the supervision of the Public Prosecution, began their field and technical investigations. They examined the seized items and extracted data from the control devices to determine the planned routes, and deepened the search to identify the identities of those involved and bring them to justice.
This operation once again confirms the effectiveness of the security strategy in the Eastern region, and the ability of security agencies to adapt to the modern technical challenges that international smuggling mafias are now employing.
