The State of Kuwait strongly condemned the Iranian attack that targeted its territories this morning, considering that what happened represents a flagrant violation of its national sovereignty and airspace, and a clear transgression of the provisions of international law and the United Nations Charter.
It affirmed that this development constitutes a dangerous escalation in light of the sensitive security conditions the region is experiencing. In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kuwait stressed its adherence to its full and original right to defend itself based on Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which guarantees states the right to legitimate self-defense when exposed to armed aggression. It clarified that any response will come within the framework of what international law recognizes, and in proportion to the nature and size of the aggression, while taking all measures to protect the country's territories and ensure the security of citizens and residents. The Ministry affirmed that protecting national sovereignty is a top priority, and that the relevant state institutions began dealing with the incident immediately after it occurred according to the approved plans, ensuring the highest degrees of readiness and rapid response. It pointed out that Kuwaiti defenses successfully confronted the attack in accordance with the operational procedures in place and the approved rules of engagement, which prevented greater repercussions. The statement added that the continuation of such military actions in the region would undermine the foundations of regional security and stability, and open the door to further tensions that could negatively impact the security of peoples and their interests. Kuwait affirmed the importance of adhering to the principles of good neighborliness and respecting the sovereignty of states and their territorial integrity, as fundamental pillars of international relations. Kuwait called on the international community to assume its responsibilities towards these developments, and to work to promote respect for international law and prevent any violations that affect the sovereignty of states or threaten their security. It also stressed the need to support efforts aimed at de-escalation and favoring diplomatic solutions, in order to contribute to containing the current crisis and maintaining the stability of the region.
