Last Friday evening, a Ramadan iftar ceremony took place, including spiritual segments, to which the "former" regional secretary of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces party in the Souss-Massa region was invited, with the attendance of a number of activists and friends.
The meeting was presented in a social-organizational format, but its timing gave it a clear political significance, in the context of an internal discussion within the party regionally about the next phase and the arrangement of its organizational priorities.
In contrast, the initiative was marked by the absence and boycott of a number of leaders and organizational bodies in the region, including party officials in Inezgane Ait Melloul, and members of the National Council, in addition to representations of the youth and women's sector. This absence was interpreted by party activists as an indication of the continued divergence of assessments regarding the return of the "former-resigned regional secretary" to the organizational or electoral forefront, while others believed that the boycott does not negate the social nature of the initiative, but rather reflects the sensitivity of the organizational circumstances and the accumulation of previous disagreements.
The atmosphere of reservation within some of the Unionist circles was reinforced after the circulation of recordings attributed to the former regional secretary, whose contents were described as offensive to a number of party activists and leaders, in addition to talk about the latter's readiness to negotiate with another political organization.
Sources close to the file, in contrast, emphasize the need to verify the context and content of these leaks before building on them organizationally, to avoid expanding the circle of interpretation or employing them in internal conflicts.
These developments come in the context of a serious discussion about rearranging the party house regionally after a phase characterized by organizational tension and previous hints of resignation, which made the general reading of the meeting divided between those who see it as an attempt to reposition themselves, and those who consider it a social initiative with political connotations that have not yet been decided.
