The Oriental Regional Council held its ordinary session today, Monday, March 2nd, at its headquarters in Oujda, chaired by Mohamed Bouarrou, and in the presence of Imhamed El Attaoui, the Wali of the Oriental region.
The agenda of this session included 50 points, which mainly focused on promoting sustainable development, improving health services, and supporting infrastructure in the various provinces of the region, and they were unanimously approved.
Qualifying the Health and Social Sector
The points related to health occupied a prominent place on the agenda, as the Council discussed and approved several agreements aimed at purchasing advanced medical equipment for the benefit of hospital centers in the prefecture and provinces of the region.
Among the most prominent of these initiatives is the purchase of a "cardiac echocardiography" device for children for the benefit of the pediatric department at the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Oujda, in addition to building and equipping "Rural Family Bridge Space" compounds in each of the provinces of Taourirt, Driouch, and Jerada, to enhance social integration in remote areas.
Transportation and Road Connectivity
Within the framework of breaking the isolation of rural areas, the Council approved draft agreements to purchase sports transport buses for the provinces of Nador, Berkane, Taourirt, and Figuig, as well as the purchase of a bus to transport cancer patients in the province of Taourirt.
The deliberations also included important road projects, including the construction and expansion of unclassified roads to connect villages with the communities of Dar Kebdani, Temsaman, and Boudinar, which will contribute to boosting the local economic wheel.
Sustainable Development and Renewable Energy
In line with national trends, the energy transition sector received special attention through the amendment of agreements to implement sustainable public lighting programs according to the principles of energy efficiency, which included the prefecture of Oujda and the rest of the region.
A project to establish an expenditure account from allocations (CDD) was also discussed to collect contributions from partners to finance the "Sustainable Tourism Development and Local Heritage Valorization" project in cooperation with the Central Fund for Moroccan-French Decentralized Cooperation.
Supporting the Local Economy and Youth
The Council also approved the establishment of a "Regional Academy for Social and Solidarity Economy", and the construction of a regional wholesale market for vegetables and fruits in the commune of Midar in the province of Driouch. On the cultural and youth side, projects were approved to establish a youth center and a community library in the commune of Bni Drar, and an agreement to support youth services, and an amendment to the agreement with Royal Air Maroc to enhance air services in the Oriental region for the period 2026-2028.
Construction of Border Control Centers and Modernization of Markets
Partnership projects were also approved to purchase and allocate real estate built on which border control centers in the communities of Ahl Angad and Bni Khaled, as well as the approval of projects to build regional markets for vegetables and fruits in the community of Midar, and the modernization of the weekly market in Lmrigeh.
The session concluded with the approval of the programming of the real surplus, and the election of the vice-president of the Equipment and Infrastructure Committee, amid optimism that these projects, which touch the daily life of the citizen, will contribute to achieving a qualitative leap in the development indicators in the Oriental region.
