The Casablanca police authorities launched intensive security campaigns on Sunday and Monday following the circulation of a video showing sub-Saharan African citizens throwing stones and endangering the safety of road users.
The police, in an official statement, stated that the judicial police in the Mers Sultan area managed to arrest a Sudanese citizen residing illegally in Morocco, suspected of direct involvement in committing these criminal acts documented in the video posted on social media. In the same security operations, 42 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were apprehended near the scene of the events, and they were subjected to judicial investigations in preparation for the start of their deportation procedures. A security source confirmed that the police authorities are still continuing their investigations and research to arrest all those involved in these acts that affect public order and personal security. The statement indicated that the immediate intervention of security elements contributed to thwarting attempts to harm the security of people and property, as well as thwarting attempts by some social media users to employ the event in a misleading way to mislead public opinion.
