HIBAPRESS – Mohamed Menflouti
Parliamentarian Aicha Zalfi, from the Socialist Group of the Federal Opposition in the House of Representatives, addressed a written question to the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs regarding the protection of the lives of mosque imams and the provision of financial support to the families of victims.
The parliamentarian reviewed the serious recent events that targeted mosque imams while they were performing their religious duties, the latest of which was the killing of a mosque imam in the Al-Weidan community, near Marrakesh, after he was attacked inside his functional residence, and the killing of another imam inside a mosque in the Driouch province during the dawn prayer, in addition to the registration of other attempted attacks on imams inside some mosques. The same speaker described these events as shocking incidents that affect the sanctity of the houses of God, and raise serious questions about the working conditions of imams and the level of protection available to them while performing their religious mission inside and outside mosques. The speaker questioned the measures that the ministry in charge of the sector intends to take in order to enhance the protection of imams and religious officials inside mosques and ensure their safety while performing their duties? And does the ministry consider establishing a mechanism to support the families of the imams, victims of the attacks, and compensate them in the same way as is done in work accidents?
