The Argentine Football Federation has issued a statement following the events of the match against Morocco, which ended in a 2-1 victory for the Atlas Lions, in the first round of the group stage of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Argentine Federation said in a statement through its president, Chiqui Tapia: “We were faced with an unfortunate situation in Saint-Etienne. We waited almost two hours in the locker room, and our players were forced to return to warm up and play the match that the referee of the arena decided to stop due to the unrest of the Moroccan fans.
He added: “The Argentine delegation was subjected to unjustified violence contrary to the rules of the competition.”
The president of the Argentine Federation revealed: “In addition, the opinions of the two team captains (Achraf Hakimi and Nicolas Otamendi) were not listened to, who confirmed that the match should not resume.”
Chiqui Tapia confirmed that the Argentine Federation had filed a complaint with the Disciplinary Commission of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) to take the necessary measures and impose sanctions on those involved in these events.
